8-Day Preview trip for Educators
The best way to get a taste of what you will experience with your class is to take advantage of our eight day preview trip. This tour is designed to give teachers and educators a chance to see some of the destinations and take part in a host of activities designed for you and your students. It also gives you a chance to meet the owner and some of the guides who will be available to answer all of your questions and discuss any Itinerary changes you may require to insure you accomplish your goals. Below are the dates and details for our next trips.
Day one
Upon your arrival in San Jose you will be met by your guide and transfer to your hotel. Depending on the arrival of your flight there may be time to explore the capital, San Jose.
Day Two
The group will head straight for the Caribbean coast where you will enjoy lunch at the sloth sanctuary. From there work your way to Matina, through the banana plantations to the Matina dock, where you will transfer to a boat for a jungle cruise and then a short hike to Serafin Turtle Station. At night the group will participate in its first turtle patrol looking for nesting turtles. The eggs will be relocated to the hatchery, tags will be recorded and measurements taken.
Day three
Take a beautiful boat ride in search of crocodiles, howler monkeys, Sloths, herons, and Iguanas. After lunch a hike through the jungle will reveal poison dart frogs, tent making bats as well as numerous species of birds. At night the group will participate in a second turtle patrol,
Day four
You will depart early in order to enjoy a day rafting on the Sarapiqui River. Then off to Don Juan Organic Farm and enjoy dinner. This farm is completely self sufficient right down to the bovine methane gas that cooks the food. From here you head for Arenal Volcano and the hot spring pools at the hotel.
Day five
Visit Venado cave in search of bats, blind fish, and remarkable subterranean coral reefs. The afternoon is spent hiking to La Fortuna waterfall. In the evening you will head to the base of Arenal for a lecture in geology and volcanism.
Day Six
Travel to the Monteverde cloud forest, but in order to avoid a long dull bus ride, you will cross Lake Arenal by boat and travel by horse back up across the continental divide into the cloud forest. After lunch there is an opportunity to visit the butterfly gardens, hummingbird galleries and serpentario.
Day Seven
Enjoy a wild ride through the treetops of the cloud forest as you navigate the cables of Monteverde\u2019s ziplines. After lunch you will participate in one of the research projects at Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. From here you will descend from the mountains back to the central valley and San Jose stopping for a little shopping at Sarchi.
Day Eight
Sad goodbyes as you make your way to the airport. A quick trip to the central market may be possible depending on departure times.
