8-Day Preview trip for Educators
The best way to get a taste of what you will experience with your class is to take advantage of our eight-day preview trip. It provides the opportunity to meet the owner and a host of our guides who will be available to answer all of your questions and discuss any requested itinerary changes. Below are the details and dates of our next trip:
Day one
Upon your arrival in San Jose you will be met by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Depending on the arrival time of your flight, you may have the opportunity to explore this capital city.
Day Two

The group will head straight for the Caribbean coast to enjoy lunch at the sloth sanctuary. From there, work your way to Matina through the banana plantations to the Matina dock, where you will transfer to a boat for a jungle cruise and a short hike to Serafin Turtle Station. At night the group will participate in its first turtle patrol looking for nesting turtles. The eggs will be relocated to the hatchery, tags will be recorded, and measurements will be taken.
Day three

Take a beautiful boat ride in search of crocodiles, howler monkeys, sloths, herons, and iguanas. After lunch hike through the jungle in the company of poison dart frogs, tent-making bats, and numerous species of birds. At night the group will participate in a second turtle patrol.
Day four

Depart early to enjoy a day of rafting on the Sarapiqui River. Then off to Don Juan Organic Farm, a completely self-sufficient farm- right down to the bovine methane gas that cooks the food. After enjoying a sustainable dinner, head for Arenal Volcano and the hot spring pools at the hotel.
Day five

Visit Venado cave in search of bats, blindfish, and remarkable subterranean coral reefs. During the afternoon hike to La Fortuna waterfall. In the evening you will head to the base of Arenal for a lecture in geology and volcanism.
Day Six

Travel to the Monteverde cloud forest, crossing Lake Arenal by boat and travelling by horse back up across the continental divide into the cloud forest. After lunch there will be an opportunity to visit the butterfly gardens, hummingbird galleries, and serpentario.
Day Seven

Enjoy a wild ride through the treetops of the cloud forest as you navigate the cables of Monteverde’s ziplines. After lunch you will participate in one of the research projects at Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. From here you will descend from the mountains back to the central valley and San Jose, stopping for a little shopping at Sarchi.
Day Eight
Sad goodbyes as you make your way to the airport. A quick trip to the central market may be possible depending on departure times.
